This Division Series saw the Twins defeat the Athletics in a startling upset, 3–2. The Athletics were up 2 games to 1, but surprisingly could not close out the series, and despite having home field advantage lost the last two games of the series. The Angels went on to defeat the Twins 4–1 in the AL Championship Series (ALCS), and defeated the San Francisco Giants 4–3 to win the 2002 World Series.
